Coehadjoe Park pickleball tournament crowns new champions

Marion County, Florida issued the following announcement on October 27.

Coehadjoe Park pickleball tournament crowns new champions

Marion County Parks & Recreation hosted the 2021 Pickleball Tournament on Oct. 23. The event took place at Coehadjoe Park, 4225 NE 25th St, Ocala, where you’ll find the area’s only public pickleball courts.

Since their installation in 2018, the fenced and lighted pickleball courts have rarely seen an unoccupied moment. That’s just what residents told the county’s Parks & Recreation department to prompt the idea of adding courts to the northeastern patch of paradise; an “if you build it, they will come” promise activated and proven for sure.

In all, 35 pickleball teams faced each other in a round-robin style tournament to determine which teams would duel in a final, single-elimination competition. The day ended as each of the six team categories crowned a champion.

Congratulations to our bracket winners:

  • Men 30+:  Jason Fisk and Dan Roland
  • Men 50+: Lamar Underwood and Trevor Wade
  • Men 60+:  Jay Phillips and Rand Pfahler
  • Men 70+: Thomas Hardesty and George Crichlow
  • Women 30-59:  Paula Newberry and Mia Miller
  • Women 60+: Mary Cranker and Nina Riley
