65p

City of Ocala issued the following announcement on November 19.

OCALA, Fla. (Nov. 19, 2021) – Holidays are a time when energy consumption may be higher than usual due to holiday lighting or frequent family gatherings with home-cooked meals. Ocala Electric Utility is providing helpful tips to stay comfortable this winter, reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency.

Apply these suggestions to maintain a comfortable and inviting home, while reducing energy costs.

  • Change the temperature from 72 degrees to 68 degrees. This could result in  a 10% savings.
  • Seal switches/outlets and add weather stripping around doors and windows to keep out unwanted drafts.
  • Seal gaps/cracks with caulk and foam to help home insulation work better.
  • Add door sweeps on all exterior doors.
  • Make sure the fireplace damper is closed when not in use.
  • Change furnace filters monthly.
  • Open drapes and shades to let the sun and heat in during the day. Close them at night to conserve the heat.
  • Use LED lights for all lighting needs inside and outside of the home. Switching to LED lights,  can result in using up to 70% less energy, and LED bulbs last 10 times longer than traditional bulbs.
Remember, download the MyUsage App to  monitor and manage energy use all year long!
