City of Ocala: SunTran Announces Free Bus Fares Saturdays and Adjusted Hours During the Holiday Season

City of Ocala issued the following announcement on November 18.

OCALA, Fla. (Nov. 18, 2021) – SunTran will be offering free bus fares Saturdays during the month of November and December.  Beginning Saturday, Nov. 27 bus fares will be complimentary on all SunTran bus routes. The courtesy rates will occur only on Saturdays on specified days.  Regular fares will resume Monday, Dec. 20.

Free fares will only be in effect the following dates:

  • Saturday, Nov. 27
  • Saturday, Dec. 4
  • Saturday, Dec. 11
  • Saturday, Dec. 18
“Developed to help citizens utilize the public transportation system during the holiday season, the complimentary fares provide a cost savings to citizens and show riders they are appreciated,” said Steven Neal, SunTran Transportation Manager. “We would like to provide a little bit of economic relief during the holiday season, while also encouraging residents to experience our public transportation system.”

For up-to-date information and to follow bus routes in real-time, passengers are encouraged to utilize the live bus tracker available online at www.SunTran.org.  A QR-Code has been established on bus maps and inside the vehicle that will link passengers directly to the live bus tracker.

Additionally, SunTran will have reduced hours on the following days:

  • Friday, Dec. 24, 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 31, 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day, SunTran will be closed for operations Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1.

The Downtown Transfer Station is the central hub for the seven routes that operate Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
