City of Ocala: Festival at Fort King is Dec. 4 & 5

City of Ocala issued the following announcement on November 19.

OCALA, Fla. (Nov. 19, 2021) – The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department is hosting Festival at Fort King, Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fort King National Historic Landmark, 3925 E. Fort King St.

This historic themed event will give guests a chance to step into life at Fort King in the 1800s. Local history will come to life with a re-enactment of the events that fueled the start of the Second Seminole War. There will be demonstrations and hands-on activities, including axe throwing, pine needle basket weaving, live-action combat, leather tanning, pottery, blacksmithing, musket and cannon firings and much more. Guests can also take a tour on the nature trail at Fort King.

Local Florida music will be played by the 7 Lbs. of Bacon on both days. There will be food trucks and craft vendors. Brick City Brewers will be serving home brewed beer. Admission to the event is $5 per person. Veterans, active military and children under five are free.

Guests are encouraged to park at the Duke Energy power line field located between NE 43rd Avenue and NE 44th Avenue on the north side of E Fort King Street, approximately a quarter mile east of the fort. Free shuttles and trams will be running continuously throughout the event for pickups and drop-offs. An ADA tram will be available for handicapped or disabled guests.
