City of Ocala issued the following announcement on November 24.
Ocala Electric Utility is providing helpful tips to stay comfortable this winter, reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency.
Apply these suggestions to maintain a comfortable and inviting home, while reducing energy costs.
• Change the temperature from 72 degrees to 68 degrees. This could result in a 10% savings.
• Seal switches/outlets and add weather stripping around doors and windows to keep out unwanted drafts.
• Seal gaps/cracks with caulk and foam to help home insulation work better.
• Add door sweeps on all exterior doors.
• Make sure the fireplace damper is closed when not in use.
• Change furnace filters monthly.
• Open drapes and shades to let the sun and heat in during the day. Close them at night to conserve the heat.
• Use LED lights for all lighting needs inside and outside of the home. Switching to LED lights, can result in using up to 70% less energy, and LED bulbs last 10 times longer than traditional bulbs.
