The City of Ocala, along with St. Johns River Water Management District, wants to remind residents to roll back the clock and reset automatic sprinkler systems beginning Sunday, Nov. 6. During the winter months, irrigation restrictions will be in effect for the city on specific days and no irrigation should occur between the hours of 10 am to 4 p.m.
“Outdoor irrigation accounts for nearly half of most Floridians’ monthly water bill,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Mike Register. “Lawns and landscape plants require less water during this time of year. By only providing the amount of supplemental irrigation required, we can conserve water and help meet our water supply needs while maintaining healthy lawns and landscapes.”
During Eastern Standard Time (early November through mid-March), residents are asked to comply with the following landscape irrigation schedule:
- Odd numbered or no addresses should water on Saturdays
- Even numbered addresses should water on Sundays
- Non-residential addresses should water on Tuesdays
- No irrigation is allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
These restrictions are designed to preserve groundwater supplies, maintain healthy yards, and protect water quality during winter months. Gardens are not subject to these restrictions; however, they should be watered before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
