City of Ocala to Host Redistricting Information Session

The City of Ocala will host an informational public session covering the process of redistricting, including demographic information and map utilization. The proposed city redistricting will also be discussed during the meeting.  The information session will be held at Lillian Bryant Community Center, 2200 NW 17th Place on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 5:30 p.m.

The city has held two previous public meetings and a City Council workshop to discuss the potential district changes. The Ocala City Council has the authority, by ordinance, to redesignate the boundaries of each district after each decennial census conducted by the United States Government. Redistricting is the process of drawing boundaries for political districts and ensuring equal representation; it is also a reflection of population shifts as a result of the recent 2020 U.S. Census within the city limits. City elections are citywide. All registered voters may vote for all open seats, no matter which district they reside in.

This will be the public’s final opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed redistricting. Staff will be available to answer questions. Meetings are free and open to the public.

The recorded presentation from Oct. 13 is available for viewing, along with the Ocala City Council workshop held on Nov. 8.
